Model 6979

Combination Bromination System

General Description:

The Model 6979 Brominating System was designed to treat water generated by the ship’s water makers as well as recirculate and treat the water in the ship’s two water storage tanks.

The system consists of two rugged, below-deck, bulkhead-mounted, brominator assemblies and a remote bulkhead-mounted control panel. The two brominator assemblies are manifolded together with flexible hose. The all-bronze pump and corrosion-resistant fittings used throughout are designed for reliable service and long life.

Alignment for storage tank recirculation is achieved by solenoid valves activated by a switch on the remote control panel. The control panel, which meets IEEE-45 standards for shipboard electrical service, includes the pump start/stop station, tank selector switch, and an indicator of the bromine feeder status. Time totalizers keep track of the total cartridge usage.

When treating water, a portion of the flow is diverted through a cartridge containing bromine-impregnated resin. The bromine elutes into the water stream. This water stream is then re-introduced to the main flow, disinfecting the potable water with its biocidal action.

Howell Laboratories’ patented Total Bromine Control System is available as an option with this unit. This system automatically controls the bromine level in the ship’s water storage tanks and alerts ship’s personnel when the bromine cartridges are depleted.

Specifications:

• Fully compliant with MIL-S-901D high impact shock (grade B) and MIL-STD-167-1 (Environmental) vibration requirements. The pump, motor, and electrical panel meet IEEE-45 standards for shipboard electrical service. Capacity: Water maker treatment at 2.25 m3/hr (10 gpm) to approximately 2 ppm bromine.
• Recirculation and treatment of water in ship’s water storage tanks at 3.9 m3/hr (17 gpm) to approximately 2 ppm bromine. Maintenance: All required maintenance can be accomplished with a slot type screw driver and a set of adjustable wrenches.
• Weights and Dimensions:
  • Main Pump/Brominator Assembly: 95 pounds; 30" W, 27" H, 17" D.
  • Secondary Brominator Assembly: 0 pounds; 19" W, 26" H, 13" D.
  • Control Panel: 50 pounds; 22" W, 22" H, 9" D.
• Water Maker Interface: 3/4" ASTM B88 copper tube.
• Storage Tanks Interfaces: 1" ASTM B88 copper tube.
• Electrical Requirements: 440 VAC, 60 Hz, 3-phase, 10 amperes.
